Introducing Myself
by Peony ini've finally got round to joining the site (after over 2 years lurking!
i was born into jws, pioneered for 10 years (met my husband at pioneer school).
had health issues that saw me catapulted away from 'the centre of the cong' and wow what a different place that was!

Cognitive Dissonance
by LexIsFree inthe cognitive dissonance amongst jws has never been more obvious to me then what i just experience in the last 5 min.
long story short i had a phone conversation w/my mom about some things and i mentioned to her to look up what has been going on with their beloved organization in australia.
brother geoffrey jackson of the holy governing body was caught lying numerous times about several subjects including disassociations & shunning.

"This Brother Jackson you speak of is probably not an active JW."
This maybe true. Have you seen his Field Service report?

For the 3 years leading up to my leaving, I voted no to almost every resolution, which lead to a Gestapo style interrogation by 2 elders. I stuck my gound, my reason for saying no every time was that fact that these resolutions were pounced on the congregation, and nobody was given any real time to think about these things and ask serious questions.
I did talk with some of the congregation about my stand, and almost every person said they were afraid of the elders if they voted no.

Women going topless in NYC.
by Fisherman inwithin the past couple of days, women in nyc are going around topless in public.
i read in a news article, that in new york city, there are no laws against women going topless in public.the article says that family people are getting offended and they want to stop topless women in public.
in europe women show their breasts on on tv, the beach, and breast feeding in public.

Fisherman
Going topless on a beach in Europe is only allowed on certain beaches, which are designated as such. On the TV, well thats entertainment. As for breast feeding in public, it occurs, but there is no reason to get excited about it.
But I think it should be regulated that only attractive women with firm breasts should be allowed to reveal them in public. Others, well nobody wants to see them anyway.

Why Me?
by John Aquila indo you ever wonder why out of all the witnesses, you are the one that woke up?
i wonder many times why me.
i know many men and women that are much, much better persons than me; either they are much smarter, more humble, kinder, more successful, or just better persons all around.

When I first became a witness I use to think, "Why do I have the privilege of knowing the truth", now I think, "Why do I have the privilege to know TTATT".
Oh shit, I went in a complete circle, and it took me nearly thirty years to do so.

venting: My wife is in cult mode again! she tried to start a fight..
by goingthruthemotions inso when i was at luch today, my wife was in full cult mode.
she started in on me about us not being able to hang with other witnesses and when i go to the meetings with her that i don't talk with nobody nor pay attention and act angry.
i told her that i don't want to fight and i have better things to do than argue.

Stupid things JWs say
by deanxxx inok we all say stupid things (probably on a daily basis in my case) but my mother (a jw) was told by another member that she doesn't have a conscience because anyone who smiles as much as she does simply can't have a conscience.
i bet you can guess the person who said it to her has a face like a wet weekend.. i guess the reasoning is: if you had a conscience you wouldn't have much to smile about because you'd be overwhelmed with guilt and worry.
what a load of old bollox that cult is eh?.

Something I use to do was quote the text " imitate those taking the lead among you", and then point out to whoever I was talking to that this does not necessarily mean the elders. -

Had to go to a JW funeral yesterday.
by Crazyguy init's amazing how ones shun former witnesses or faders.
a couple of people said high to me that know i do not go but the rest no.
but the main reason i post is how ridiculous the funeral talk was.

There was a funeral talk yesterday in the hall I used to go to, for an older sister who died. I did not attend. When I was a witness, I had a problem with always being positive towards other witnesses and saying to myself I have to love these people, that is the christian thing to do. I am getting over that now, and to be honest I did not like the sister who died, nor do I like her husband. They were fine people, but I just did not like them. And as Crazyguy says this emotional pushing of their doctrine is really unpleasant. The sad thing about this couple is that since they could not/cannot attend meetings or go in field service due to health reasons, he has terminal cancer in the final stages and she was suffering from dementia, and did not even know anymore how to do the most rudimentary of things, the congregation just basically dropped them. No elders visit to offer encouragement. The only people who did anything for them was an apostate ex JW and his in JW wife, in but very critical of the congregational elders. If I had gone, I am sure I would have come out fuming due to the hypocrisy.
I attended a funeral a couple of weeks ago in a Protestant church, for one of the people who were killed in the terrorist attack in Tunisia some time ago. The service was very respectful, the priest talked a little about the deceased and about the terrorist attack, and also praised the local population for the support they gave to the wife of the deceased who was shot in the beech. I do want to repeat the service was very respectful.
